Kamala Harris’ book shows exactly why she was soundly defeated by Donald Trump (“‘107 Days’ of a losing campaign,” Web, Sept. 22). She takes no responsibility for her failures. Everyone is to blame but Ms. Harris herself.

However, it is true that her loss was not entirely her fault. She was never considered a serious contender by the Democratic Party establishment.

In my opinion, none of the party elites truly believed she would win. It seems the only reason President Biden endorsed her immediately upon dropping out of the race was to stick it to Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders. Mr. Biden’s endorsement threw a wrench into whatever plans they were concocting.

Mr. Biden gave his endorsement not because he had faith in Kamala; he simply used her to settle a score. The establishment feigned support only to keep the downballot races competitive. I could never believe that Democratic elites were OK with having Kamala lead them.

Ms. Harris seemed clueless to this fact, though this itself should not absolve her. Her biggest mistake was her political ineptitude. She did not have any respect within her own party and seemed oblivious to that fact. She said it was “reckless” not to challenge Mr. Biden when he decided to run again. No, it was stupid. She could have challenged his mental competency and demanded to be made president. She could have cast aside all his failures and run as a fresh-faced incumbent. She could have been the first female president, if only briefly.

Yet Kamala lacks the political acuity that is crucial for a president, and her book only solidifies that fact.
