The Wizards announced Monday that their new “Encore” alternate uniforms will feature a gold and black colorway, calling back to the third uniform the franchise wore from 2006 to 2009.

The City Edition uniforms will blend the throwback color scheme with the format currently used on the team’s other jerseys. The gold look will debut during Nov. 16’s home game against the Brooklyn Nets.

“Uniforms using the gold and black colorway has been a request from the fans as well as players since the City Edition concept debuted years ago, with the black City Edition uniform worn in 2018 starting the conversation,” Rebecca Winn, the Wizards’ senior vice president of marketing, said in a statement.

Unlike the original gold duds, the new jersey features horizontal striping across the front, a “Washington” wordmark and a silhouette of the Washington Monument.

The new uniforms are part of Nike’s “Remix” campaign for the 2025-26 NBA season. Teams like the Miami Heat, for example, have already confirmed that they will wear a previously used design with a revamped color scheme.

“When Nike directed us to ’remix’ a former City Edition, we immediately thought of the classic Wizards uniform first worn in 2006,” Ms. Winn said. “We think this version will look great on the team and on the court and the fans will be excited about the uniform and accompanying merchandise offerings as well.”

The shorts have also been overhauled for the alternate look. The Wizards announced that their “DMV” logo would grace the outside of the shorts. It’s the first time that a major professional team has included the “DMV” regional descriptor on uniforms.

The Wizards will wear the new uniforms 29 times this season, which kicks off on Oct. 22. The team has also designed a special alternate court design to complement the look.
