Technical problems in the Dallas metroplex that began Friday continued to bedevil area airports Saturday, causing delays and cancellations.
The Federal Aviation Administration said an issue with equipment used by an unspecified Dallas-area phone company led to the delays. At one point Friday, all flights were grounded at Dallas Love Field, a hub for Southwest Airlines, and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the main spot for American Airlines.
“The FAA reported an issue involving the telecommunications provider for the air traffic control facility that oversees the airspace in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As a result, the FAA has severely limited flights into both DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field,” American Airlines elaborated in a social media post Friday.
The issues continued intermittently into Saturday, with the most recent set of ground stops at the two airports lifted just before 8 a.m., according to an FAA air traffic control advisory database.
New ground stops or delays at the two airports are a possibility until 7 p.m. Saturday, per an FAA status page.
There were 606 delays and 510 cancellations at DFW on Friday, with 209 delays and 155 cancellations Saturday morning, according to FlightAware. Dallas Love Field experienced 224 delays and one cancellation on Friday, with 37 delays Saturday morning.
