President Trump is accusing the Biden administration of “trying to put Charlie Kirk” out of business after it was revealed that the conservative activist’s organization, Turning Point USA, was investigated by the FBI.

“Why was the wonderful Turning Point under INVESTIGATION by ’Deranged’ Jack Smith and the Corrupt & Incompetent Biden Administration.,” Mr. Trump posted late Tuesday on Truth Social. “They tried to force Charlie and many other people and movements out of business. They Weaponized the Justice Department against Sleepy Joe Biden’s Political Opponents, including ME!”

Mr. Trump’s comments came hours after Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley, Iowa Republican, published files showing the FBI had investigated dozens of Republican organizations as part of its election probe into Mr. Trump’s actions to contest the 2020 election.

The groups include the Republican National Committee, the Republican Attorneys General Association, Trump political groups and Turning Point USA, which was founded by Mr. Kirk, according to Mr. Grassley. Dubbed “Arctic Frost,” the probe examined 92 GOP-linked organizations.

The investigation focused on purported claims of election fraud, fake elector schemes, lawsuits, financial fraud and pressure on state officials to change vote counts in favor of Mr. Trump.

Mr. Kirk had repeated Mr. Trump’s claim that mail-in voting in the 2020 election was riddled with fraud.  However, it is unclear why Turning Point USA was subpoenaed.

Mr. Smith’s cases did not go to trial and were dropped after Mr. Trump won reelection in November 2024.

Mr. Kirk was shot and killed last week during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University. The shooting suspect, Tyler Robinson, has been charged with aggravated murder and other criminal charges. Prosecutors say Mr. Robinsion had vowed to “take out” Mr. Kirk because he “hated” the conservative activist’s views.
