D.C. United need a new general manager. The club announced Tuesday that Ally Mackay, who had served as chief soccer officer and general manager since 2023, was no longer with the franchise.
The District’s MLS club is mired in its sixth consecutive losing season. It ranks second-to-last in the Eastern Conference with four matches remaining.
“We would like to thank Ally for his work during his time with D.C. United and wish him every success in the future,” D.C. United co-Chairmen Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan said in a statement.
Before coming to the District, Mackay worked with Nashville SC during their inaugural season in 2020.
Team officials said the move was part of a “comprehensive review of the club’s soccer operations.” A new leader for soccer operations will be announced in the future. The franchise said it needs to “move forward with a new approach.”
D.C. United hired coach Rene Weiler this summer, the team’s fourth non-interim manager since 2020.
The club won three of the first four MLS Cups from 1996 through 1999. They added a fourth title in 2004 but haven’t appeared in the league’s final in the two decades since.
The District’s onetime powerhouse hasn’t made the playoffs since 2019 and hasn’t won a playoff game since 2015.
