The Screaming Eagle is back. The Capitals’ fan-favorite throwback logo will return on the team’s alternate jerseys this season, this time on a bright red background instead of the traditional black look.

The new design intends to blend different eras of the team’s history, Capitals officials said in a news release.

The red color is a classic choice, mirroring the current home uniforms. The striping on the sleeves and the rounded white yoke on the shoulders harken back to the 1970s and 1980s. The Capitol Dome logo on the shoulder was first introduced in the 1990s — the same can be said for the eagle design on the front.

The jersey features sets of stars and stripes throughout, always in groups of three to “represent the loyal D.C., Maryland and Virginia fan base,” the team said.

The Capitals will debut the new look at home against the Minnesota Wild on Oct. 17. The jerseys will go on sale that day as well.

The jerseys also feature a patch for their new sponsor: Coupang. The U.S.-based e-commerce company, best known for its operations in South Korea, will replace the social media app TikTok on the Capitals’ jerseys this season.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly described Coupang as a South Korean company. Although the company was founded in South Korea, it is now based in the U.S.
