OPINION:
In line with President Trump’s effort to restrict drug companies from misleading TV viewers, it seems time for the Federal Communications Commission to take a long, hard look at ads promoting companies’ home title protection products (“Trump cracks down on drug ads on TV, social media that he says mislead people,” Web, Sept. 9).
If we are to believe these home title protection ads, there is no home in America, or maybe even the world, that is safe from thieves.
If home titles are really this unsafe from potential theft, it is a tremendous failing by our federal, state and local governments. If that is really the case, the citizens of America require immediate assistance in this matter. However, I’ve not seen or heard any reporting on this matter by print or broadcast media.
If our home titles are not in that much jeopardy, then this trend of home title protection companies to scare U.S. consumers and homeowners into buying their useless products needs to be stopped. The U.S. airwaves are for the good of American citizens, not for the illegal use by companies trying to scam viewers.
The FCC and the media need to increase their efforts in doing what they should be able to do best: protect U.S. citizens from unscrupulous third parties.
