OPINION:
Thursday’s Washington Times front-page article “Conservative activist assassinated” reports that the petition signed by 944 people to bar Charlie Kirk from the campus of Utah Valley University reads, in part: “Charlie Kirk is known for his divisive rhetoric that often supports policies and laws which aren’t inclusive or marginalize various communities.”
A view of the past several months (and even years) has shown that the political left is unhinged to the point of routinely killing or attempting to kill those who disagree with its political culture of death. Even Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the ailed running mate of Kamala Harris, is guilty of language — a poorly disguised joke — that, at the very least, suggests the untimely demise of President Trump. This came just hours after the horrific events at Annunciation School in Minneapolis last month.
What kind of ideology drives this anger and hatred toward others while claiming to be inclusive of those of diverse opinion?
What is truly “divisive,” exclusionary and marginalizing are not the words of civil discourse and rhetoric but rather the finality of taking of the life of another person. The killing of Charlie Kirk and the high-profile shootings at churches and Christian schools have been undertaken not by those who have chosen rhetoric as their means of opposition to leftist tyranny but rather by those who wish to stifle free speech and impose leftist tyranny without debate or dialogue. They choose premeditated murder to advance their agenda.
Ironically, the party that is against law-abiding citizens owning guns for self-protection is the same crowd whose followers have taken up guns to silence those with whom they disagree. This is indeed unrighteous and hypocritical behavior of the highest order. Kirk’s death is just another vivid indicator of this truth.
