Pope Leo XIV’s recent overfocus on climate change after blessing a block of ice is a dangerous repeat of what Pope Francis did.

When he first became pope, Francis said he would focus on the environment. As Christians, we are called to care for God’s creation and his world, but Pope Francis’ love for the environment became completely twisted after he held a Mass in honor of “Pacha Mama” (in other words, a demonic, pagan goddess).

Pope Leo XIV asked God to bless the water in the block of ice, which will supposedly “awaken our hearts, cleanse our indifference, [and] soothe our grief.” Water (or any nonliving object, for that matter) does not awaken our hearts; only God does. What Leo is doing is a slippery slope toward pursuing, yet again, a pagan-worshipping agenda and turning away from truly listening to God’s way of caring for his environment.
