OPINION:
In case you missed it, text messages from 2022 recently surfaced in which Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for Virginia attorney general, said he would “piss on graves” of Republican opponents (“Democrats want to kill ideological foes: The cases of Jay Jones, J.B. Pritzker and Judge Boardman,” Web, Oct. 6).
He went on in a text message, writing that in a situation in which he had only two bullets and had to choose between shooting former Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert (a former Republican opponent), Adolf Hitler and Cambodian dictator Pol Pot, “Gilbert gets two bullets to the head … every time.”
That’s right; this is from a candidate for attorney general, the highest legal representative in the commonwealth of Virginia. Astonishingly, the man is leading in the polls.
Is this what America has come to? In a country that is already much too violent and politically divided, where a presidential candidate is shot and a political assassination is excused as if the victim deserved to be shot in the throat with a hunting rifle for exercising his right to free speech, violence — mostly from the left — has become the norm. So when protesters confront, antagonize and fire on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for enforcing the law, it’s OK.
The real risk in all this hostile rhetoric and acceptable violence is that a tipping point is near. Someone will be shot, and we will be catapulted into something truly horrific, quite possibly with national violent repercussions. The useful idiots who stoked all this will rue that day, as the real antifas will step in and try to seize power. Not possible? Think again.
