A man who used the Denver International Airport parking garage for less than half an hour Thursday was charged as if he used it for four months, drawing a fee of $19,824.

Glen Haven, Colorado, resident Jim Boyd told Denver’s KUSA-TV that he parked at the airport for 27 minutes on Thursday so he could drop his wife off. The fee, he said, should have been $7.

Instead, the system charged him as if he parked since June 6, more than 169,000 minutes and almost four months in total. Airport officials told the TV station that the system confused Mr. Boyd’s license plate for that of another car with a nearly identical plate, with one having a B in the spot where the other had an 8.

Denver International Airport also told KUSA that the system glitch was fixed by Friday.
