OPINION:
I have been fighting big government for decades, as I realized long ago that people will be slaves to the federal government. When Davy Crockett was a member of the House Representative and debating a bill that would give taxpayer dollars to the widow of a member of the military, he said simply, “It is not yours to give.”
Now we have Congress debating whether to give money to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), while federal employees are working without being paid, which, when I was growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, we called slavery.
Before we give anyone other people’s money for not working, Congress must pay essential federal workers to keep the friendly skies friendly and maintain “defense through depth,” as President Ronald Reagan said. We are not a rich country; we are the largest debtor nation in the world because we have an enormous federal government.
Both the Democratic and Republican parties have long abandoned the Constitution, including its Bill of Rights. I appeal to all churches in America and all religions to take back their responsibility and take care of the poor because, members of Congress, the money “is not yours to give.”
