John Wall is coming back to the District of Columbia. The former All-Star guard is joining Monumental Sports Network’s Wizards broadcasts after spending 10 years with the NBA team, the network announced Thursday.
Wall will work as a studio analyst for the Wizards’ pregame and postgame shows, splitting time with his duties as an analyst for Prime Video’s NBA coverage.
“Washington, D.C. will always be my second home. The city, the fans, and the Wizards organization have all played a huge role in my life and career,” Wall said in a news release. “I’m excited to join Monumental Sports Network and the Wizards studio team as I continue the next chapter of my basketball journey and be back around the game in a place that means so much to me.”
Wall retired this summer after 11 seasons in the NBA. The five-time All-Star became one of the most iconic Wizards after the team drafted him with the top pick in the 2010 NBA draft. He averaged 19 points per game with 9.2 assists in Washington, leading the Wizards to four playoff appearances.
Former Wizard Brendan Haywood will join the play-by-play booth for select games this season. He played for the Wizards from 2001-10 and three other teams before starting his broadcasting career with NBC and CBS Sports.
“John and Brendan are not only beloved figures in Wizards history, but they also bring a wealth of basketball knowledge, insight and personality that fans will instantly connect with,” said Zach Leonsis, Monumental Sports’ president of media. “We take great pride in featuring a strong roster of former players and team alumni across our Capitals, Wizards and Mystics broadcasts — voices who truly understand what it means to represent D.C.”
The 1-3 Wizards play the undefeated Thunder in Oklahoma City on Thursday night.
Haywood will make his network debut during the game against the Orlando Magic on Saturday. Wall will join him a week later, before the game against the Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 8.
