Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, despite being listed as a full participant in Friday’s practice. The NFL is now investigating whether the Ravens violated the league’s injury reporting policies, according to multiple reports.
If Baltimore misrepresented Jackson’s status for Sunday’s game, the franchise could face fines, suspensions or a loss of draft picks.
The NFL requires teams to accurately report the status of injured players throughout the week to combat potential concerns tied to gambling. Full transparency regarding injuries helps maintain a level of trust between league officials and bettors.
According to several reports, Jackson worked with the Ravens’ scout team on Friday instead of the starting offense. Under the league’s reporting guidelines, he may have been a “limited” participant instead of the “full” that the Ravens used to tag the two-time MVP.
Over the weekend, Jackson was downgraded to “out” and will not play against the Bears. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley is expected to start on Sunday after the Ravens elevated him from the practice squad.
“The league will look into this,” an NFL spokesperson told ESPN on Sunday. “The league reviews any matter involving a change to a player’s status.”
