A new barrel-aged beer from Samuel Adams is 30% alcohol by volume, too strong to be sold in 15 U.S. states.
The beer’s suggested retail price is $240 a bottle.
The beer company’s Utopias 2025 is the latest in their line of beers first introduced in 2021, and is the first to reach 30% alcohol by volume, Samuel Adams said.
Previous iterations that did not surpass the threshold were still too strong for Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia, according to CNN.
As such, the new Utopias beer is also not available in those states, Samuel Adams said.
Each bottle of Utopias 2025 is 24.5 ounces and ceramic, and combines beer vintages up to 30 years old aged in various liquor and wine casks. The beer was brewed at a Samuel Adams facility in Cincinnati and then aged at a company facility in Pennsylvania.
