Former President Joseph R. Biden completed a round of radiation therapy Monday for his aggressive form of prostate cancer.
Mr. Biden, 82, had been undergoing treatment at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia for several weeks.
His daughter, Ashley Biden, took to Instagram to post a short video of the former president ringing a bell, signifying the completion of his radiation course.
It’s currently unclear if any additional radiation therapy will be needed.
Mr. Biden’s office announced his diagnosis in May, which spread to his bones. On Oct. 11, it was reported that he had been undergoing radiation therapy in addition to hormone treatment.
Political foes and allies alike offered support for the former president after his diagnosis, including President Trump.
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Mr. Trump, 79, wrote on social media in May. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
The former president’s health has been an issue of concern for years, particularly during his tenure as the nation’s oldest-ever president.
Mr. Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential election race amid widespread concern over his health and mental cognition.
Since he left office in January, congressional Republicans have investigated an alleged cover-up of Mr. Biden’s diminished capacity while in the Oval Office and the use of the autopen to sign official documents, including thousands of pardons.
Last year, 78-year-old Mr. Trump became the oldest person elected U.S. president.
In July, the White House confirmed that Mr. Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a “benign and common condition,” the White House said. This followed an annual physical exam released in April, claiming that Mr. Trump’s “blood flow to his extremities is unimpaired.”
The president underwent an evaluation last week at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as part of an “ongoing health maintenance plan,” according to a White House memo posted on social media.
“President Trump continues to demonstrate excellent overall health,” his physician wrote.
