California has fallen to such depths in all areas of measurement — economic, educational, cultural — that voters may finally be ready to do something they haven’t done for a very, very long time: vote a Republican for governor.

Steve Hilton, GOP candidate for California governor, thinks the tide has indeed shifted to the point where his campaign may achieve a win.

On the world Gov. Gavin Newsom is leaving behind, Hilton said: “We have the highest unemployment rate in America … the highest poverty rate … highest gas, electricity, insurance, rent, mortgage [costs] … [We] rank 50 out of 50 states in affordability … have the worst business climate in America … have nearly 50 percent of America’s homeless population.”

What more to say?

“I don’t think there’s been a governor,” Hilton said, “who’s been able to mess things up right across the board to the extent that Gavin Newsom has done.”

It’s the Magic Democrat Touch.

Hilton says the Democrats’ days in leadership in the Golden State may be winding down — and given California’s massive economy, that’s good for all of America.
