The release of “Grand Theft Auto VI” has been pushed back again, from May to November 2026.
The game was originally set to come out in 2025, but developer Rockstar Games said in May the latest installment of its hit action game would come out on May 26, 2026.
On Thursday, Rockstar Games, a subsidiary of game company Take-Two Interactive, said the game would now be released on Nov. 19, 2026.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” Rockstar Games said.
“We remain both excited and confident they will deliver an unrivaled blockbuster entertainment experience” for “Grand Theft Auto VI,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in a statement.
“It’s always painful when we slip a date, and we have done so occasionally in the past,” but Take-Two has “never regretted it in retrospect,” Mr. Zelnick said on Take-Two’s earnings call Thursday.
The first trailer for “Grand Theft Auto VI” came out in December 2023, a decade after the 2013 release of the last installment in the series, “Grand Theft Auto V.” The game has sold 220 million units across Sony and Microsoft video game consoles and personal computers, Mr. Zelnick said.
