It’s Thanksgiving, and what Americans should most be thankful for is that Democrats don’t control the White House, the Senate and the House.

That’s because we can mostly all eat turkey and cranberry sauce in peace, minus the background noise of illegal immigrants hurling rocks at local police vehicles and setting buildings and people on fire (unless you live in Chicago, that is). And that segues into this thought: What Americans should second most be thankful for is the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

But truly, if Democrats were in the White House, not only would the streets be unsafe to walk, not only would the gangbangers and drug runners and sex traffickers be peddling their fentanyl and cocaine openly, unabashedly, brazenly, but even the narratives from the executive branch would differ.

If Democrats were in the White House, the lead-up to Thanksgiving would’ve seen a flurry of presidential memos to children to use the table time to make sure ol’ granddad knew just how racist he was; to talk up the evils of the Republican Party; and to tout the absurdity of those who still believe in the idea of two sexes and two sexes only, male and female, and that God — God! — created them both in His image. And then the TV would’ve been flipped to CNN to gather ‘round and watch as the first lady’s chosen Nutcracker dancers — dressed as if they came straight from their drag queen story time reading gig at the library down the road — gyrated and whisked about the hallowed White House halls.

Compare that to this year. Contrast that to the current administration.

An elegant first lady, Melania Trump, accepts the Christmas tree. An impeccably dressed President Trump pardons the pure-white turkeys, Gobble and Waddle.

As for the narrative, Trump said this: “On behalf of the first lady and the entire Trump family, I want to wish all Americans a very, very happy Thanksgiving. It’s a great time of the year. … We thank God for His many blessings and the great success that this country has seen in the short period of time. We draw strength from the love of family and friends, and we express our undying gratitude for the men and the women of the United States armed forces. We love them. We pray that peace and prosperity will continue to bless our land, and together, we’ll really just keep this great drive going to make America great again.”

Classy. Tasteful. Traditional.

Democrats would’ve struggled to get past thanking God. And even if they did thank God, they would have messed it up by thanking all the gods.

America has certainly dodged a bullet with the presidential election of Trump over former Vice President Kamala Harris; with the vice presidency of J.D. Vance and not Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Could you imagine a cackling Harris word-salading her way through some sort of Venn-diagramed address to the nation, as her V.P. tossed free tampons to the men in the crowd, and her freak show LGBTQ Cabinet members distributed BOGO abortion coupons to the masses? Yikes.

Happy Thanksgiving, America. It’s always great to be an American. But it’s much more peaceful and dignified to be an American when Republicans are in charge.
