lGeorge Mason University fired an adjunct professor recently after he drank alcohol with undergraduate students in class last week.
School sources told WRC-TV that the professor, whom neither the station nor the school has named, allowed students in an 400-level political science course to bring in booze for end-of-semester presentations Thursday.
The sources did not say whether any of the students were under the legal drinking age.
At least one student drank enough to pass out, requiring an EMS response.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue told the TV station that the department went to the school at about 6 p.m. Thursday for a medical call; the student recovered and is now doing well.
In a statement to WRC-TV, George Mason University said that “an adjunct lecturer was fired following a prompt investigation into a Thursday evening incident in his classroom that egregiously violated those policies and expectations.”
The school is investigating the adjunct’s other courses to find out whether there were any other violations.
