OPINION:
During a recent hearing of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, former Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback said, “China is at war with faith, and it is at war with us,” according to the Washington Times (“Congress warned that China’s crackdown on religious freedom is a national security threat to U.S.,” Web. Nov. 20).
Beijing’s crackdown on the Zion Church last month even caught the media’s attention
As Mr. Brownback pointed out, China’s war on faith is not only a human rights issue; it is a national security issue. Chinese exiles living overseas were once thought to be safe. But transnational repression — Beijing’s overreach beyond its borders — poses a grave risk to Chinese exiles, as Grace Jin Drexel testified to the committee.
