OPINION:
It is good that Clifford May, following President Trump’s lead, wrote recently about the war against Christians in many parts of the world (“The war against Christians,” Web, Nov. 11).
Unfortunately, one of those parts of the world is Ukraine, where a war is being waged against the largest Christian church, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which has more than 12,000 parishes.
Before the war, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church, but it cut ties after the war started and condemned the invasion. This, however, has not been enough for the Ukrainian authorities, who have been persecuting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and now want to ban it altogether.
