Colorado football coach Deion Sanders wouldn’t allow his players to speak to the media after Saturday’s 52-17 blowout loss at home against Arizona. He urged reporters to focus their questions on the coach.
“Don’t come at the coordinators. Come at me,” the former NFL Hall of Famer said. “Don’t attack the players, come at me.”
The Buffaloes are now 3-6 on the season, including 1-5 in the Big 12. Sanders’ squad has lost their last two games by a combined score of 105-24.
Saturday’s defeat saw Sanders bench starting quarterback Kaidon Salter and backup signal-caller Ryan Staub. Third-string freshman Ju-Ju Lewis exited the game with a hand injury late in the fourth quarter.
Despite the quarterback carousel, Sanders said he hasn’t lost the locker room.
“I know a quitter when I see one,” he told reporters. “I haven’t seen that.”
The Buffaloes face steep odds to qualify for a bowl game with three regular-season games remaining against West Virginia, Arizona State and Kansas State.
The ever-confident Sanders isn’t wavering.
“I don’t doubt me,” he said. “Let’s get that straight: I. Don’t. Doubt. Me.”
