Many internet users woke up Tuesday morning and logged onto social media, video games or news sites, only to see an error message.

An issue with the web infrastructure company Cloudflare is causing rippling effects across multiple websites and social media platforms.

Cloudflare is “investigating an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers,” the technology company said on its status page.

A little after 8 a.m., Cloudflare said that the “issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.”

It powers everything from X and President Trump’s Truth Social to the video game League of Legends and some news websites, such as The Washington Times.

More than 10,000 reports were issued regarding social media platform X, according to outage tracking website Downdetector. Ironically, Downdetector appears to be having issues itself.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT was investigating a “partial outage” for some users as of 7:43 a.m.

Cloudflare said customers were experiencing “widespread 500 errors,” which indicates that a website’s server is malfunctioning.

The issue could be affecting the source itself: Cloudflare.

“Our support portal provider is currently experiencing issues, and as such, customers might encounter errors viewing or responding to support cases,” the company’s status page read at 5 a.m. “Responses on customer inquiries are not affected, and customers can still reach us via live chat (Business and Enterprise) through the Cloudflare Dashboard, or via the emergency telephone line (Enterprise).”

Cloudflare said it is working alongside its third-party provider to “understand the full impact and mitigate this problem.”

As of 8:35 a.m., the company said it is continuing to work on restoring service for application services customers.
