The election of Zohran Mamdani to New York City mayor doesn’t just say something about a local government or a local citizenry, or even a local culture. It speaks to American society at large because the U.S.A., as of a couple of decades ago, never would have accepted a card-carrying socialist with open antisemitism as the leader of a free city.
So what’s going on with America?
Historian and best-selling author Craig Shirley says Democrats have really pushed this country in the wrong direction, and the lingering effects are proving devastating to the state of American Exceptionalism.
“Lies and deception are part of the left-wing philosophy,” Shirley says. “As conservatives, we believe in truth, light, education, knowledge …
The left-wingers believe in indoctrination, censorship and stopping the flow of information. …
It’s about control — and one of the ways to control people is to … censor their information.”
How to strike collaborative views with those who won’t even engage in rational debate?
As Shirley says, it’s impossible.
“We can’t compromise any more,” he says. “The cultural divide is such that the two sides can barely speak to each other.”
How true.
