OPINION:
Given the continued disconnect between the Democrats and American voters on fundamental, common-sense issues, could we be witnessing the demise of a political party?
Our country is on a slippery slope. The examples are numerous and include open borders that have enabled drug cartels to import huge quantities of illegal drugs, illegal immigrants of all ages committing crimes and getting released without prosecution, judges assisting illegal immigrants to evade law enforcement, our colleges and universities hiding behind First Amendment protections to allow hateful rhetoric on their campuses.
The Democratic positions on issues—frequently expressed with profanity and accompanied by incitement to violence—are always in direct opposition to whatever the Republican stance is. The current Democratic Party’s social agenda is too extreme for most voters, which is why the party isn’t reaching more people.
During the George W. Bush administration, Republicans were able to reset priorities to restore common-sense principles and end the Tea Party takeover. Unfortunately, liberal influence appears to have taken over the entire Democratic Party to the point that moderate voices are being pushed aside, and they seem impossible to stop.
My recommendation to the Democrats: Acknowledge—as a party, not individually—the miscalculations of your policies, such as promoting biological males playing in women’s sports. Restore common sense to halt the slippery slope and regain your credibility and trust with voters. Establish common ground with government agencies to identify waste, fraud and abuse. Protect our business owners to prevent the exodus of high-value businesses from our downtown business districts.
The Democrats’ confidence ranking with voters is below 30%, so the slope is nearing a point of no return. The party must act quickly to prevent a rapid descent into irrelevance.
