OPINION:
Pennsylvania is at the forefront of achieving America’s long-held goals of energy self-reliance. The Keystone State has played a critical role in creating a stable and plentiful supply of affordable natural gas and has recently emerged as a dominant player in hydrogen development. In fact, our state is home to two of the nation’s largest hydrogen hubs.
Decades of pragmatic governance have allowed the Pennsylvania energy industry to flourish, and powerful tax credits like Section 45V —created under the Inflation Reduction Act — have propped up industries, created jobs and brought significant investment to our state. For those living in the commonwealth, these gains are evident in the revitalization of our communities and the proliferation of opportunity across our state.
Pennsylvania’s natural resources and innovative spirit are necessary to continue to make it an energy leader. Conversations in Washington about balancing budgets and reducing waste could jeopardize the foundational tax credits we rely on to achieve these ends. I hope our leaders recognize the critical role that 45V has and will play in creating opportunities in our state, and that they stand up for its continuation.
