OPINION:
Your May 16 article, “Trump policy moves worry Afghan refugees and Christian groups that assist them” (Web) details how Catholics and Southern Baptists in the Fredericksburg, Virginia, area are helping in this effort. The piece mentions that these efforts might be affected by Trump administration budget cuts.
Well, charity has been a hallmark of Christianity since the days of the Apostles (they’ll know you are Christians by your love!). Christians can’t help themselves; we will always take care of our neighbors and strangers. It’s in our DNA. The federal government got into welfare in a big way, using our tax dollars, during President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal. Consequently too many think that helping others in need will end if the federal government doesn’t fund it.
Sorry, Christian charity will survive.
