Cal Thomas (“You’ve got to be taught to hate,” Commentary, May 28) has gotten it backward. You’ve got to be taught to love.

Babies are born neutral, not virtuous, and for them to become  loving people takes warmth, acceptance, discipline and proper education from families, schools and religious institutions.

The default position is hate. This is where Christianity comes in.

It was Christianity that gave us the golden rule (Love thy neighbor as thyself), it was Judaism that gave us the Ten Commandments, discipline and respect for law and it was the Constitution that gave us a great and good nation with charity for all and malice toward none.

It is President Trump who works hard to restore what has been lost by the violence and ignorance of those who hate this goodness and have come here to infiltrate, dilute, distort and water down. America First is not just a slogan; it is a necessity.

Love is not the default setting of humanity. It has to be carefully  taught.

Universities are teaching a new generation to hate Jews, and blood is on their hands
