Michelle Tafoya argues in “Race, not talent, has come to define the Caitlin Clark vs. Angel Reese rivalry” (Web, May 28) that basketball player Caitlin Clark’s positive impact on the WNBA is not due to her race, but rather to her extraordinary talent. I agree.

But Ms. Tafoya then compares the animosity between Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese and Ms. Clark to the rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Byrd. I disagree that the feuds are similar. Byrd and Magic became close friends and Magic came to recognize the greatness of Byrd’s talent. Angel Reese will never be “Magic.”
