OPINION:
There are no words for the stunning actions of a leftist activist who last Wednesday night killed two innocent Israeli Embassy staffers and boldly bragged about his actions in the name of “free Palestine” (“Man who killed Israeli Embassy aides had history of left-wing activism,” Web, May 22).
While we live in a violent society, what has happened thanks to the last presidential administration’s fostering of violence based on a hard-left political agenda is something I never imagined I would see. Our universities accept money from foreign countries, inviting students and educators who embrace an anti-American agenda. Since the Biden administration, many of our youth have chosen this selfish path, too, with no regard for the long-term impacts.
Our tax dollars are supporting congressional, university and public officials who are inciting hateful rhetoric while claiming First Amendment protections. This is causing a level of confusion among citizens and preventing clarity about the values of respect and decency.
Additionally, social media is contributing to this desensitization. As a youth counselor, I wonder, How can professionals in my field teach young people to see that individuals who think violence — including murder — is justifiable are dead wrong? Is it too much to ask Democratic congressional leaders have some closed-door meeting to instruct their members that hate-filled rhetoric will not be tolerated and that severe punishment, including public denouncement, will be meted out?
The results of the Biden administration’s tacit permission of violence for political ends were injuries to innocent people and the destruction of property. The perpetrators ran and hid to watch the fire burn and were not held accountable or denounced by our Democratic leaders.
My parents frequently remind me of “Ball of Confusion (That’s What the World is Today,)” an old R&B song by the Temptations. In my opinion, the high level of societal confusion the Temptations sang about in 1970 still exists today.
It seems the political left has abandoned the wisdom of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. that “violence never brings permanent peace.”
