Mookie Betts’ 2-year-old son, Kaj, was supposed to deliver a ceremonial first pitch to his father ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ game against the Athletics on Tuesday night. What better way to celebrate “Mookie Betts Bobblehead Night”?
The toddler had other ideas. While Betts jogged to home plate, his son sprinted toward first base with the baseball in hand.
Kaj kept waddling toward right field, narrowly avoiding the best efforts of his older sister. Brianna Betts proceeded to scoop up her son and stand him in front of home plate.
The ensuing pitch was a bit low — a few feet short of reaching the plate.
Mookie Betts, who started at shortstop for the Dodgers, then scooped up the fleeing toddler for photos.
“One day that kid will be raking and they’ll play this on one of those Father’s Day montages,” one fan wrote in response to a video of the pitch on X.
Kaj’s father finished 0 for 3 with an RBI in the Dodgers’ 11-1 loss to the A’s.
