OPINION:
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore should veto the bill to study reparations for slavery, or at least dampen its implementation (“Backers of bill to study reparations for slavery urge Moore to sign measure,” Region, May 12).
If it becomes law, this measure will only stir up racial divides within the state. What’s more, few Marylanders will actually be able to establish clear family ties to enslaved persons, and given the current budgetary situation in Maryland, the state won’t be able to pay any reparations. So why fan the flames on an issue we can’t afford anyway?
