OPINION:
Sorry, Mr. Shapiro, but freedom in Ukraine (and America) has a price (“Mr. President, freedom in Ukraine is about morality, not money,” Web, March 5). Democratic and Republican administrations alike have ignored economic affairs, but without those no one can acquire freedom or wield the sword of morality.
At $37 trillion in debt, the U.S. has a responsibility to future generations — but that responsibility should not be undertaken at the expense of our support for Ukraine or any other country. I want my grandchildren to be free and it’s not too much to ask for something in return. Our country has been generous beyond measure and it shows, here and abroad (for better and worse). Should we be the global hegemon at the expense of our future?
The world is not all rainbows and lollipops. A little balance is in order and we are on the morally wrong side of $37 trillion.
