Vice President J.D. Vance visited the border in Texas on Wednesday and said the lower illegal immigration numbers are proof that the Biden migrant surge was a matter of resolve, not laws.

He said the area he was touring went from 1,500 illegal immigrant encounters a day down to 30 now under President Trump. Mr Vance said Mr. Trump achieved that by unshackling law enforcement to arrest, detain and deport people.

“That’s simply the president of the United States empowering these professionals to do what they do so well,” Mr. Vance said.

Mr. Vance’s trip to the border comes less than two months after he was sworn in.

His predecessor, former Vice President Kamala Harris, waited five months before making her sole trip to the border. And President Biden waited until his final year in office to visit.
