OPINION:
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said on an episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher” that the “Democratic brand is toxic,” in large part because of cancel culture. He said that in context of explaining why he’s hosted Charlie Kirk, Steve Bannon and Michael Savage on his podcast — of ‘splainin’ himself to the outraged left.
Well and good. But truly, the Democrat Party is toxic for a lot more reasons than just cancel culture.
There’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
There’s LGBTQ madness.
There’s the raging Trump Derangement Syndrome.
There’s the socialism that’s permeated the ranks; the communists who’ve infiltrated the party — the overall anti-American agenda that’s taken root and spread. There’s more, much, much more.
Really, taking a look at the problems facing the Democrats right now and summing up, well, it’s just a matter of cancel culture — that’s sort of a Johnny-Come-Lately approach. The problems with today’s Democrats are really problems that began years and years and years ago, before cancel culture hit hard, before wokeism woke the ranks, before the idea of boys in girls’ bathrooms and men in women’s sports went widespread.
Still, Newsom said this: “Democrats, we tend to be a little more judgmental than we should be,” he told Maher, USA Today wrote.
“We need to own our mistakes. We need to own what’s wrong with our party,” he also said.
“I mean, this idea that we can’t even have a conversation with the other side — you have to. They won,” he also said.
And then he added this: “That’s it, the bottom line. And by the way, on the notion we just have to continue to talk to ourselves or we’re in the same damn echo chamber — these guys are crushing us. The Democratic brand is toxic right now.”
He’s not the only Democrat to question his party’s sense. Sen. Michael Bennet, Colorado Democrat, told NBC his party’s brand is “problematic.” Understated, but true again.
All true. But even truer is that the party brand has been both toxic and problematic since the Democrat Party tried to remove God from its platform — since its members booed when God was put back into the platform — since the Democrat National Committee deemed it the future of the party for socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to become its leader — since its party’s picks for presidents went from anti-Constitution, Barack “I have a pen and phone, who needs Congress” Obama to Joe “find my brain” Biden to Kamala “the coup candidate” Harris. The toxicity has been brewing for a while.
Cancel culture is just its latest manifestation.
