OPINION:
President Donald Trump is 100% delivering on his promise to purge the federal government of bad apples. He’s been doing this via the long overdue firing of the director of the Justice Department’s US Trustee Program, Tara Twomey, and by taking action against leftist law firms.
As fortune favors the bold, Trump and the DOJ should go even further and close the entire corrupt US Trustee’s Office. For 200 years, the U.S. did without this program. Alabama and North Carolina have even opted out of it. (While he’s at it, Trump should also shutter the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.)
China’s traditional bureaucracy, built around the imperial examination system, started in the Sui Dynasty. In 1905, the Qing Dynasty bureaucracy was abolished. A few years later, in 1911-1912, the entire system was overthrown as part of the country’s modernization.
The U.S. central government, on the other hand, has been expanding since the Revenue Act of 1913 and the New Deal.
Trump’s “Art of the Deal” should include abolishing America’s wasteful central government.
