How does a man make the following decision: “It is OK for me — a male who is physically more robust and has greater muscle and lung capacity than a woman — to compete in sports against females” (“NCAA back on defense as female athletes blast updated transgender policy,” Web, March 20)? It’s one thing to choose to be transgender, but it’s something else altogether to ignore the physical realities with which nature endows each sex.

Those who do so ought to undergo clinical brain analyses determine whether the origins of their thinking are physiological malformation or manifestation of a social construct. Fairness, character and the search for truth demand no less.

And shame on the medical community, as well as women’s rights and sports organizations, who remain silent on this issue for fear of being seen as politically incorrect. That they would sacrifice young women on the alter of self shows they are not worthy of their positions.
