OPINION:
The Senate a few days ago passed a Republican-favored, Democrat-hated spending bill that was signed by President Trump and that averted a government shutdown. That it escaped filibuster and made it to the floor for a vote was due largely to Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer; that it ultimately passed 54-46 was due to Schumer and several fellow Democrats who broke party ranks and gave it the thumbs-up.
Now Schumer is Enemy No. 2 to Democrats — right behind Trump.
All the leftist Democrats are calling for an end to his political career, demanding that he step aside and step down and really, just really, step the freak off — or something to that effect.
Dems really cannot tolerate any dissent at all. They’re like cult members. We are zee law! It’s blind obedience at all costs. It’s blind adherence to far-leftist agendas, unworkable and unwanted as they may be. That’s the only course of action allowed.
“Pelosi shivs Schumer: ‘Don’t give away anything for nothing,’” one Politico headline in the aftermath of the vote stated.
The story told how former Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized Schumer for letting the funding bill go forth to vote.
“I myself,” Pelosi said, “don’t give away anything for nothing. I think that’s what happened the other day.”
The socialists who call themselves progressives and cloak their socialism behind the label of Democrat are up in arms. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she may primary challenge him. Rep. Jasmine Crockett suggests she could support Ocasio-Cortez’s challenge against Schumer.
“A senior House Democrat [unnamed] said of their colleagues’ mood toward Schumer: ‘His popularity is hovering somewhere between Elon Musk and the Ebola virus,’” Axios wrote.
“Multiple Democrats in the Congressional Progressive Caucus and others directly encouraged Ocasio-Cortez to run … against Schumer in a primary,” CNN wrote.
“Indivisible, a progressive group, put out a press release calling on Schumer to step down,” Mother Jones wrote.
A whirlwind has been released.
Suddenly Schumer, the senatorial hero of the far left, the guy who called out Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch for their then-pending decisions on Roe v. Wade — the guy who named them at a public rally and then threateningly warned, “You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price” — yes, that guy; he’s now become the target of his own party’s whirlwind.
It’s a bit fitting, don’t you think?
“You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions,” Schumer said in March of 2020, to Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, before a crowd of abortion-loving radicals.
And now Schumer is feeling the heat of his own Democrat-decreed “awful decisions.” How apt. How very, very appropriate.
So what’s a target of cultish ire to do? Dig in. Dig in deeper. After all, when the mob encircles, it’s way past the time for artful persuasion. Fight, fight, fight is the only chance of survival.
“Chuck Schumer defends funding vote amid progressive backlash, saying shutdown would bring ‘devastation like we’ve never seen,’” the New York Post wrote.
Schumer’s logic was that to allow the government to shut down would be tantamount to handing a gift to the cost-cutters and government-trimmers working for Musk in the Department of Government Efficiency and for Trump.
They could’ve used the cease in operations to show just how nonessential many government agencies are, and then used that pause in payouts as a platform for permanent cuts, he said.
But Democrats, as a voting group, aren’t a particularly thinking type; nor planning; nor strategizing; nor seeing causes and effects; nor even classic Democrat. They’re socialists. They’ve turned the corner from John F. Kennedy days, and even Bill Clinton days, and fallen right into the Marxist traps of Barack Obama-Joe Biden days. Ocasio-Cortez, the new Democrat breed.
James Carville, longtime political strategist, suggested Democrats ought to give Schumer a little time to recover.
“This might turn out to be a wiser decision than people think,” Carville said on CNN, The Hill reported. “But it’s too early to tell.”
The problem is when whirlwinds are released, they’re difficult to calm. The problem is when socialists dominate today’s Democrat Party, logic and reason fly out the window.
There’s no pity for Schumer, though. This is the cult of Democrats he helped develop. These are the problems of his own making. It’s only natural that a whirlwind he created would eventually blow back his way.
