Kieran Culkin took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the comedy-drama “A Real Pain” on Sunday night, but his acceptance speech quickly turned personal.
The “Succession” star revisited his viral Emmy Awards moment when he jokingly pressed his wife, Jazz Charton, for a third child, referencing a promise she had made.
“After the show, we’re walking through a parking lot … and she goes, ‘Oh, God, I did say that!’” the actor said. “‘I guess I owe you a third kid.’ And I turned to her, and I said, ‘Really, I want four.’”
Ms. Charton, caught on camera in the audience, appeared amused but not entirely on board. Mr. Culkin continued to quote her as having said then “I will give you four when you win an Oscar.”
She gave a slight acknowledgement.
Turning back to his wife from the stage, he added, “No pressure. I love you. I’m really sorry I did this again, and let’s get cracking on those kids. What do you say?”
Ms. Charton mouthed a firm “No!” as the audience laughed.
Mr. Culkin’s win capped off a dominant awards season, where he swept the major supporting-actor honors, also including the Golden Globe and SAG Award.
His speeches, often off-the-cuff and self-deprecating, have made headlines, with actor Robert Downey Jr. even teasing him before presenting the award.
In “A Real Pain,” Mr. Culkin plays an abrasive yet charismatic man on a Holocaust memorial tour.
