OPINION:
President Trump’s support for Israel’s airstrikes against Hamas and the U.S. military’s intensifying strikes against the Houthis in Yemen mark a turning point (“Netanyahu vows more to come as deadly strikes shred ceasefire deal with Hamas,” Web, March 17). Tehran’s proxy war is being met with force, not appeasement. This is a welcome change not only for Israel but for all those suffering under Iran’s web of terror across the region.
For years, Hezbollah and the Houthis have brought devastation to Lebanon and Yemen. Iran’s proxies have destabilized Iraq and propped up Syria’s brutal dictatorship. Yet in the West, Israel — not Iran — is often scapegoated for the region’s turmoil.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, the balance of power in the Middle East has shifted. Precision strikes in Lebanon, Iraq and Syria have dismantled Iran’s supply lines and weapons stockpiles. Hamas and Hezbollah are in disarray. As a result, jihadism is weaker, and that’s a necessary step toward the stability and peace the region desperately needs.
