T.J. Oshie is returning to the Georgetown fountains where he celebrated the Stanley Cup championship in 2018. This time, the longtime Capital will make an announcement.

The event will start at 5 p.m. on Monday at the Washington Fountains, marking the seven-year anniversary of Oshie and Capitals star Alex Ovechkin swimming in the fountains. Fans can attend for free and are encouraged to RSVP on the Capitals’ website.

The Capitals haven’t clarified the nature of Monday’s announcement, but it is widely expected to be a retirement ceremony for the 38-year-old. Oshie said at the end of the 2023-24 campaign that he would step away from hockey if he couldn’t find a “fix” for his nagging back issues.

Oshie spent the entire 2024-25 season on long-term injured reserve. He last played in the first-round playoff loss to the New York Rangers in April 2024.

Oshie recorded 302 goals and 393 assists in 1,010 career games. He opened his career with seven seasons with the St. Louis Blues before signing with the Capitals in 2015.
