WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark didn’t play in the visiting Indiana Fever’s loss to the Washington Mystics last Wednesday, but that didn’t stop the home team from enjoying its best TV ratings on Monumental Sports Network in years.
The network reported Tuesday that last week’s game was its most-watched matchup since at least 2023. The early-season tilt outperformed last year’s regular-season finale, which saw the Fever come to the District as the Mystics battled for a potential postseason berth.
Last Wednesday’s game, which was moved to CFG Arena in Baltimore due to increased ticket demand, drew more than 10,000 fans.
Through seven games, the Mystics’ TV viewership has more than doubled from last year.
This year’s Mystics are one of the WNBA’s early-season surprises. Widely expected to spend the campaign at the bottom of the standings, they have jumped to a respectable 3-4 record, good for third place in the Eastern Conference.
First-year coach Sydney Johnson has the rebuilding Mystics, led by rookies Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, playing competitively through the early weeks of the season.
The Mystics return to the court Tuesday for another game against the Fever, this time in Indiana, as they open play in the in-season Commissioner’s Cup.
