OPINION:
When I listened to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine describe in detail the precision bombing of various Iranian nuclear facilities and the American response in Qatar to Iranian attacks, I thought of President Franklin Roosevelt’s April 21, 1942, news conference.
Toward the end of the conference, Roosevelt commented on the recent bombing of Tokyo. But instead of giving any details about what would become known as the Doolittle Raid, he merely fabricated an answer, saying the planes “came from our new secret base at Shangri-La.”
Congressional leaders from both parties should be sworn to secrecy and given these details, but members of the public, as well as our enemies, don’t need to know them.
