Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl is rapidly becoming one of President Trump’s biggest supporters. The longtime coach praised the Republican after military strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites over the weekend.
“Thank you Mr president for your strength and vision, keeping us safe,” Pearl wrote on X on Saturday. “Proud of our troops! You did what no one has had the courage to do for far too long. You were patient and clear.”
The activism is nothing new for Pearl, who became the first president of the Jewish Coaches Association in 2005. His social media feeds have been filled with support for Israel and criticisms of Iran and Hamas in recent months.
Saturday’s post drew mixed responses. Some applauded the coach for sticking to his beliefs. Others voiced questions about the ramifications of the strikes.
“We are not at war with Iran, we are at war with Iran’s military nuclear program,” Pearl wrote in a follow-up post on Sunday. “The President wants peace, now the ball is in the court of the Iranian leadership. Iran’s terrorist reach has been diminished but still present.”
