The D.C. Council is about to spend $1 billion in taxpayer money on a new Commanders stadium — while crime-ridden communities and school kids suffer. Really? What are the councilmembers thinking?

How about improving your schools or making streets safer or getting grocery stores to come in and alleviate the food desert you have going on? Instead of scaring grocery stores away with all sorts of demands, use the $1 billion to make it easy for them to come in and provide this vital service.

Or how about buying out all the “no show” jobs you have and getting rid of that overhead? How about making safe places for kids to go so they can avoid gangs and learn a vocation?

While a new stadium will attract businesses, it will not provide the jobs and development for the people who need it the most. Those people already working for the Commanders will keep their jobs and new jobs will be mostly low-paying and seasonal work. This is not a wise investment. All the promises will turn sour. Watch and see.
