OPINION:
“It’s not our fault” is once again the theme from liberal public officials as we witness the protestors in Los Angeles destroy that city. Based on their responses, they have not learned anything from the summer violence of 2020.
Even more shocking is the continued collaboration by legacy media outlets, seeking comments from lawmakers based on a political narrative rather than facts. News producers’ worst mistake has been replacing factual news with social commentary.
In college, my understanding of news reporting was that it sought to obtain the facts, not inject the writers’ opinions. That may be why mainstream news outlets’ TV ratings remain at such low levels. As a youth counselor, my efforts to teach our young people about respecting the law and what peaceful protest looks like are all but undermined when those I counsel watch and listen to adult public officials not take responsibility for policies. This was especially so when it came to the Biden administration and it’s still the case with Democratic congressional members and other politicians.
As a voter, I want to ask these politicians: If it’s not your fault, whose is it? Accepting responsibility would help our youth see that there are laws for a reason and that all of us have to follow them, even if we disagree with them. The behavior of the protesters in LA is a direct result of the policies of leftist leaders and judicial officials who have created an atmosphere of tolerance for violence, property destruction and looting.
They have also interfered with federal agencies such as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, restricting agents’ ability to perform their job duties.
Whose fault is the high level of deadly drugs being imported to the U.S. via our open borders? Whose fault is that our students’ academic performance lags behind that of students in other nations? And whose fault is it that millions of illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds are allowed to roam our streets, in no fear of being arrested?
It seems we are living in two Americas: one governed by facts, the rule of law and respect for diversity of ideas, and the other based on individual lawlessness, a lack of personal responsibility and the presence of government-funded organizations that want to destroy our values and standards by influencing our citizens to denounce our country.
