The Nationals’ trade deadline fire sale continued Wednesday night as the rebuilding franchise traded pitcher Mike Soroka to the Chicago Cubs.

The 27-year-old Soroka earned a 4.87 ERA in 16 starts with the Nationals this season, his lone year in Washington. The former All-Star earned a 3-8 record with 87 strikeouts.

In return, the Nationals reportedly received 18-year-old infielder Ronny Cruz and 25-year-old outfielder Christian Franklin, who were the Cubs’ 13th and 14th-ranked prospects, respectively, on MLB Pipeline.

Soroka said he knew Tuesday’s start could be his last for the Nationals.

“I think it’s just one at a time, wherever it may be. Point at the mound, I’ll go throw,” Soroka told MLB.com. “The Nationals have done really well by me, and it’s been fun. Whatever happens, happens. But it’s a good place, a lot of good guys. I think I’m ready for whatever comes next.”

Soroka, like the other three players the Nationals traded away this month, was on an expiring contract.

Currently in last place in the NL East, Washington interim general manager Mike DeBartolo has looked to offload those veterans in exchange for prospects who can help the rebuilding club in the future.
