Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu joined teammates Bobby Wagner and Laremy Tunsil on the NFL’s annual Top 100 list on Monday. The hard-hitting defender was voted as the 70th-best player in the league by his peers.
The NFL Top 100, now in its 15th season, allows active NFL players to rank their colleagues based on their performance in the most recent season. This year, the rankings have been unveiled one at a time on social media.
The reveals began on June 30 and will wrap up on Sept. 1, when the Top 10 are announced on NFL Network.
“Very high energy guy,” Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman said of Luvu. “Turn on the tape; bro is all across the field, for sure.”
The Washington State product posted 99 tackles with a career-high eight sacks and seven pass deflections. With Wagner, Luvu represented the heart of the Commanders’ defense during their run to the NFC championship game.
“When he’s coming through the A-gap, you better bring your britches with you, because he’s coming,” Eagles running back Will Shipley said. “It’s almost like, is this dude ever not going to be in on a tackle?”
Luvu was named an All-Pro for the first time in his career last season. The 28-year-old was originally an undrafted free agent before impressing the league during stints with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers.
“He is like their ace in the hole for Washington,” Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson said. “He really does a good job of setting the tone for their defense.”
