OPINION:
Three cheers for Stephen Moore’s column, “Congress should just say no to a remittance tax” (Web, June 17). The proposed tax on remittances is a very bad idea for all the reasons Mr. Moore mentions.
It’s also anti-family. The remittances provide an incentive to maintain family ties abroad and keep members in the home country rather than seek to immigrate illegally.
Finally, the proposed tax is poor politics. A key factor in President Trump’s 2024 victory was his increased share in working-class and Hispanic voters. They voted for Mr. Trump’s economic, anti-woke, law-and-order policies. They would feel betrayed by this proposed tax.
